5 teams Liverpool can face in the Champions League play-off after qualifying

Date Posted,August 2, 2017

Liverpool have discovered the five teams they could potentially face in the Champions League play-off next month — and there could be a shock reunion with Mario Balotelli.

Maverick Italian striker Balotelli’s Nice drew 2-2 with Ajax in Amsterdam but went through on away goals, and the French club are unseeded going into the big draw on Friday.

The Reds could also come up against Young Boys from Berne in Switzerland, who finished second behind Basel last season and play on an infamous artificial surface.

The other teams Jurgen Klopp’s side could face are Romania’s Steaua Bucharest (hammered 6-0 by Manchester City at the same stage last season), Hoffenheim of Germany and Turkish side Istanbul BB.

Liverpool will be seeded in the draw alongside Napoli, Sevilla, CSKA Moscow and Sporting Lisbo,

Jurgen Klopp’s side will not discover if the first leg will be played at home or away until after the draw is made.
