Two massive teams, missed penalties, scored penalties, and, arguably, the gaffe of the season before the season has even started…
The man responsible: Marouane Fellaini.
Now, we should start by saying Manchester United showed some class against the Spanish giants, who last season clinched La Liga, oh, and something called the Champions League.
Anthony Martial produced a spectacular bit of play to set up United’s goalscorer Jesse Lingard, and in fact, Fellaini also had a pretty good game.
But unfortunately for the Belgian, his performance in the 1-1 stalemate at the Levi’s Stadium will always be remembered for one thing.
And it’s not great to be honest with you.
With the game level and heading to penalties, Fellaini found himself in a brilliant position – completely unmarked – in the Real box.
A cross found his foot and in theory he could have taken the ball down and slotted past Kiko Casilla in goal. But he didn’t.
Opting to strike the ball first time, the Belgium simply threw his leg at it before standing back to watch it fly into the air, over the bar, and into the stand.
And those who witnessed it didn’t hold back on voicing their opinions…
