Alves backed to succeed in Premier League with Man City by former Barca pal Xavi

Date Posted,June 27, 2017

Dani Alves has been backed to succeed at Manchester City – by his former Barcelona team-mate Xavi.

Alves is set to complete a two-year switch to City after being released from his contract with Juventus after just one season in Italy.

Although Alves is 34, his old Barca colleague Xavi is convinced the Brazilian can still play at the highest level and prove a real asset to City.

Alves confirmed he has been let go by Juve, leaving him free to be reunited at City with his former Barca boss Pep Guardiola.

“Age is not everything,” said Xavi. “For me, he’s still the best right-back in the world.

“Barcelona missed him this season – and he’s just had an incredible season with Juventus.

“He is a good friend, I know how hard he works, I know how well he looks after himself.

“He’s in great condition and can play at the top level for some more years yet.

“You’re not just getting a great player – you’re also getting great experience.

“He’s won many league titles across Europe, Champions League titles and has played in all the big games with Brazil.

“He’s a big character and he’s very important in the locker room. He has a great relationship with Pep – there’s a lot of mutual respect – they had a lot of success together at Barcelona.”
