Arsenal fan pays £24,000 for dinner with Wenger at Gunners fundraiser

Date Posted,May 18, 2017

An Arsenal fan has bid £24,000 to have dinner with Arsene Wenger at a fundraiser for the club foundation.

Fans paid hundreds of pounds to secure tables and mix with first team stars such as Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott.

The club raised an incredible £464,841, easily passing their initial target of £385,000 to boost local projects in Islington and areas around the world.

Other prizes that fetched big bids included a round of foot golf with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for £2,800 and £5,500 to be included in the official first team squad picture next season.

Alexis Sanchez was at the event, with the Chilean’s future still the topic of discussion ahead of the summer.

With one year remaining on his deal, failure to qualify for Europe’s top competition may push him to leave.

The Gunners will now shift focus back to preparation for Sunday’s final game of the season, with the pressure ramped up as they face missing out on a place in the top four.

Wenger’s side must beat Everton on the final day of the season and hope that relegated Middlesbrough can avoid defeat at Liverpool.
