The Monaco star has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal, who have seen two bids for him – the second worth £40million – snubbed in this transfer window.
Arsene Wenger is ready to hand the 21-year-old, who is keen on moving to the Premier League, a five-year deal worth £100,000-a-week.
And former Invincible Pires believes he would be a great fit for his old club, saying he has the “right profile” to play for the Gunners.
“I love him as a player,” the Frenchman told Sky Sports.
“For me, Thomas Lemar is one of the best French players there is.
“He can play on the left, he can play on the right, he can score goals and he can make assists.
“Lemar is the kind of player who can make a difference.
“He has the right profile to play for Arsenal, definitely. I hope for him and for Arsenal that it happens.”
Arsenal have already broken the club transfer record to land Alexandre Lacazette for £52million in this transfer window.
They may have to come close to doing the same if they wish to sign Lemar, who is widely considered to be one of Europe’s hottest prospects.
