Arsenal turn to Mahrez as Monaco play hardball to keep Lemar

Date Posted,July 1, 2017

Arsene Wenger is ready to pursue his interest in Riyad Mahrez with Monaco determined to keep Thomas Lemar.

Leicester’s PFA Player of the Year for the 2015-16 season is desperate to quit the club this summer in favour of a move to Arsenal.

The Gunners, already close to the record-breaking £44million capture of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon, are among a string of clubs keen on landing the Algerian.

However, reports out of Europe claiming that the deal has been agreed and is “soon” to be announced are understood to be premature.

Arsenal have turned to Mahrez with Monaco playing hardball in their bid to keep 21-year-old Lemar at the club.

A £30.7million bid rejected last week with Monaco insistent that the schemer is not for sale at any price.

Although boss Leonardo Jardim has hinted he could be forced to sell some of his stars this summer, Arsenal appear to have accepted defeat in the chase for Lemar.
