Barcelona will step up efforts to sign Bellerin if Arsenal miss out on top four

Date Posted,May 18, 2017

The race to finish in the top four has never been tighter but the outcome of the final Premier League matches could have major ramifications for Arsenal if they fail to secure a Champions League place.

Arsene Wenger’s position will of course be called into question once again if the Gunners fail to reach Europe’s biggest cup competition for the first time since 1996.

But the future of several big name names including Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil will also dominate the headlines throughout the summer as the top stars will want to be playing in the Champions League.

Another player who could leave the Emirates is Hector Bellerin who has struggled to find his best form this season.

Fresh reports in Spain this week suggest that a deal back to his boyhood club Barcelona could happen very quickly if Arsenal miss out on the top four.

The Spanish giants have yet to find a suitable replacement for Dani Alves who left the club last summer to join Juventus and want to find an alternative to Sergi Roberto who has struggled at right back.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim Barcelona are optimistic of finalising a deal to sign Bellerin if Arsenal fail to overtake Liverpool and Manchester City this weekend.

Despite only signing a new six-and-a-half year contract back in November, the Catalan side are hoping a £45million move will see them get their man.

The situation could of course change for Bellerin if Arsenal manage to defy all the odds and finish in the top four.

Wenger’s side need to beat Everton and pray Middlesbrough can do them a massive favour and record a victory over Liverpool.

There is also the outside chance of a fourth place play-off taking place if Arsenal draw 1-1 and Liverpool lose 2-0 at Anfield as the two sides would be level on everything.

Whatever the outcome, Barcelona will be keeping a close eye on proceedings and there could be some major transfer activity if the Gunners fail to secure a Champions League place.
