Barton brands Klopp a ‘giant German cheerleader’ as he blasts Liverpool boss

Date Posted,August 12, 2017

Joey Barton has laid into Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, claiming the German is not a “super coach”.

Former Burnley midfielder Barton, who is currently banned from playing football for betting offences, is not a fan of the ex-Borussia Dortmund manager.

Klopp guided the German club to two Bundesliga titles and a Champions League final before helping the Reds finish in the top four last season.

But Klopp’s success has not impressed Barton – has believes he is a “giant German cheerleader” at Anfield.

“He is not trophy-laden like Mourinho or Guardiola, so we have to be sceptical of him,” Barton told Talksport.

“He has gone in with all this charisma and seems a down to earth, nice guy, but I always worry when I see him prancing up and down the touchline. He is like a giant German cheerleader for them.

“To be a top manager, you have got to have more than that. He has got a terrible record in finals.

“I’m not buying the Klopp aura and that he is this super coach. His career doesn’t point that way.

“His Dortmund career ended in a hole in the ground. He lost the players, he lost the dressing room. They were fighting relegation.”

Klopp and Liverpool began their Premier League season with a thrilling 3-3 draw with Watford on Saturday.
