Birmingham wait to hear back from John Terry after submitting “very genuine” offer

Date Posted,June 15, 2017

Birmingham are waiting to hear from John Terry after offering him a stunning deal to become their best-paid player ever.

The former England captain is a free agent after ending his illustrious spell at Chelsea at the end of the season.

He has been holding out for £100,000-a-week to continue playing amid interest from Premier League Bournemouth and West Brom.

MirrorSport understands Championship Brum under boss Harry Redknapp have made the centre-back, 36, a genuine, huge offer to play at St Andrews next term.

The deal, financed by the club’s wealthy Far East owners Trillion Trophy Asia, would make Terry the club’s highest-paid player ever on nearly six figures a week.

The defender is now mulling over the terms as Birmingham wait for his decision.

Local rivals Aston Villa are also keen and Terry was pictured playing golf in Portugal recently with boss Steve Bruce.

But Birmingham are believed to be offering more cash to Terry, who has won five Premier Leagues, a Champions League and five FA Cups at Stamford Bridge.

Redknapp hopes Terry’s arrival will help turn them from relegation contenders last term into promotion contenders next season after the veteran boss kept them up and remained in charge.

Redknapp has already signed keeper David Stockdale who has left promoted Brighton and he is keen on Barnsley captain Marc Roberts.

A source told MirrorSport: “The offer to John Terry is very genuine and decent. He has other offers and it is up to him now. We are all waiting to find out, including our players, as his potential signing has got everyone excited.”
