Boothroyd hopes his fancy footwear can help England reach the Euro semis

Date Posted,June 20, 2017

Aidy Boothroyd hoped England are a shoe-in for the Euro semi finals – helped by his fancy footwear.

The England U21 boss deliberately bought an OTT pair of brogues to wear during matches, along with his FA suit and waistcoat.

Boothroyd says he wanted to draw some sparky comments from his players and relax them before kick off.

And the plan worked when Nathan Redmond dished out some stick to his boss.

Boothroyd explained: “I knew there would be a little bit of stress and a little bit of pressure so I thought I would buy a pair of shoes that might be a talking point and take some off the heat off them!

“I got em out of TK Maxx and as soon as I put them on Nathan Redmond looked at them and said ‘Strange shoes, boss.’ So they are a nice little distraction.

“Lucky shoes? I don’t know about that. They only go with so many things.”
