The 31-year-old striker has been linked with a move to his boyhood club for the past few weeks after his game time was dramatically reduced under Jose Mourinho last season.
And it seems mum-of-three Coleen, who is usually tight-lipped when it comes to press speculation, may have let the cat out the bag by ‘liking’ a Twitter post discussing the move, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The tweet, posted by Everton fan Tony Scott said: “Romelu Lukaku will sign for Manchester United while Wayne Rooney comes home tomorrow,” and Coleen appeared to give it her seal of approval by ‘liking’ the post – one of just nine ‘likes’ that appear on her account.
Rooney looks set to sign a two year deal with Everton which would make him the club’s biggest earner on around £150,000 a week.
According to reports, the deal was agreed on Friday night and only a few remaining issues between the Rooney and current club Manchester United are to be ironed out before his sensational comeback is confirmed.
Romelu Lukaku looks to be heading in the opposite direction and is expected to meet up with the United squad this weekend when they fly to Los Angeles for a pre-season tour.
Rooney is to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer with United waving their £10m valuation of England’s all-time leading scorer.
Earlier this week it was reported that the Croxteth couple are moving to a new luxury home much closer to Merseyside, adding further fuel to the rumours.
The home, in Knutsford, would be around a 40-minute drive from Everton’s training ground at Finch Farm.
The luxury property, which is being built on the site of a demolished farm, will boast stables for 15 horses, a six-car garage and an orangery.
On the lower ground floor is a TV room, snooker room, bar, wine store, cinema, gym, jacuzzi, swimming pool, plunge pool, steam room, and two lifts to other floors.
There is also underground access to the stables and garage, and two bedrooms.
The main entrance and reception halls, kitchen, dining room, family room, study and library are on the ground floor.
Four bedrooms and bathrooms, including the master, are situated on the first floor and mezzanine level.
Blueprints show the grounds could have space for a mini golf course, along with a “manege”, area for training and riding horses.
Wayne and Coleen, both 31, and their children Kai, seven, Klay, four and Kit, one, have lived in the plush district of Prestbury for the past 12 years.
But Coleen was left shaken after an attempted burglary at the house last August.
She previously said it caused her “sleepless nights”, adding: “I fear for my children playing outside on their own.”
