Coutinho overcomes late fitness test to make Liverpool bench against Stoke

Date Posted,April 7, 2017

Philippe Coutinho has overcome a late fitness test to make the bench for Liverpool’s away clash against Stoke.

Jurgen Klopp revealed on Friday that the Reds’ star player was a major doubt for Saturday’s fixture as the Brazilian still felt ill.

The 24-year-old was taken off during Liverpool’s draw with Bournemouth on Wednesday after feeling sick at half-time.

Despite Coutinho revealing he felt better following the game, he was still a major doubt heading into the weekend’s game against the Potters.

Speaking on Friday, Klopp said: “We will have to see about Coutinho. We will give him all the time. He will be really close.”

However, Liverpool released their team news on Saturday afternoon and it contained their star man on the bench.

Jurgen Klopp has also handed starts to 17-year-old striker Ben Woodburn and 18-year-old right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Roberto Firmino was dropped to the bench.
