Date Posted,April 21, 2017

Didier Drogba was mobbed after arriving in Phoenix on Friday.

The Ivorian has joined United Soccer League side Phoenix Rising as player and part-owner.

He is determined to take the club into the MLS and was given a hero’s welcome when he touched down in the States.

Drogba was given flowers and a club scarf at Sky Harbor International Airport.

The Chelsea legend is set to be presented to the Phoenix fans ahead of their clash with Swope Park Rangers on Sunday.

“It’s going to be an amazing time here,” he said.

“I’m happy to be here and it’s an amazing welcome from the fans.

“I can’t wait to get started and to see the stadium [and] to see my team-mates.”

Meanwhile, Drogba has admitted he would have loved to play for Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.

I think I would have scored a few goals,” Drogba added.

“The way the team is playing everything is set up for the strikers.

“I’ve spoken to him many times and played against him when he was at Juventus.”
