Drug tests in English football to DOUBLE as the FA step up their anti-doping measures

Date Posted,July 31, 2017

Premier League players face a huge anti-doping purge — with the number of drug tests in English football set to double.

This season, under the auspices of UK Anti-Doping, the FA expects more than 5,000 players to produce samples.

They have approved a £2million budget for drug tests, with the aim that every Premier League player will be tested at least once in a season.

In the 2015-16 season, UKAD conducted 2,442 tests in English football – so the target of 5,000 for 2017-18 represents a 100 per cent rise in 24 months.

But football will still lag behind cycling — Tour de France champion Chris Froome was tested 30 times in three weeks.
