Eldense boss detained by police over match fixing claims after 12-0 drubbing by Barcelona B

Date Posted,April 3, 2017

Eldense manager Filippo di Pierro has been arrested as part of a police probe into his side’s 12-0 drubbing by Barcelona B.

The heavy reverse was the largest winning margin in Spain’s third tier for a quarter of a century, raising match fixing suspicions.

And Di Pierro has now been detained by police as they investigate.

The demolition sealed the strugglers’ fate as they were relegated, with the club announcing they would not play any more games this term and severed ties with their Italian investors.

However, the club president performed a U-turn on Monday and insisted they would honour their remaining fixtures.

More to follow.
