Capello was handed a bouquet of flowers and was greeted by a huge banner that read: ‘Welcome our Emperor Capello’.
The Italian coach has been out of work for the last two-years after being sacked as Russia manager.
But the 70-year-old was determined to find a way back into management and joins former Premier League managers Luis Felipe Scolari, Andre Villas-Boas, Gus Poyet and Felix Magath who are managing in China.
A Jiangsu statement confirmed: “We have signed a working contract with Mr Fabio Capello. He will be the head coach. Welcome Fabio!”
Capello made his name at AC Milan where he won four Serie A titles and the Champions League and also won two La Liga titles with Real Madrid.
Following a much publicised time in charge at Juventus where his two Serie A titles were revoked for the club’s involvement in Italy’s match-fixing scandal, he then took over the England job.
But despite his impressive CV, Capello failed to help England deliver at the major tournaments and they were knocked out in embarrassing fashion in the last 16 of the 2010 World Cup.
Capello will now be hoping for more success in China and already seem to have the fans behind him.
