England boss Southgate snubs Manchester Derby for night at the rugby league

Date Posted,April 26, 2017

England manager Gareth Southgate has given the Manchester Derby a swerve to take in rugby league match.

The Three Lions chief was spotted taking in Leeds vs Huddersfield in the Super League rather than Manchester City vs Manchester United .

Southgate could have been running the rule over Raheem Sterling, Michael Carrick and Marcus Rashford ahead of June fixtures against Scotland and France.

Wayne Rooney, Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young and Luke Shaw were also sitting on the bench ready to impress their national team boss.

Southgate picked five players who star for United and City in his last squad.

The Super League Twitter account showed off their visitor tweeting: Great to see the England manager Gareth Southgate enjoying some Super League action at Headingley tonight.”

Football fans were furious to see the England boss at the other match and took to social media to deride Southgate.

Jake Martin fumed: “Man city vs man Utd Na mate going to rugby.”

Jamie Murphy joked: “Couldn’t get a ticket for the Manchester derby then? Lol.”

Leeds Rhino could go above Castleford Tigers at the summit of the premium rugby league – with Huddersfield Giants struggling at the bottom end of the table.

Meanwhile, United could jump over City into the Champions League places if they beat their bitter rivals.
