Fans taken to hospital after PSV supporters let off smoke bombs

Date Posted,April 23, 2017

PSV Eindhoven’s Eredivisie clash with Ajax had to be halted after smoke bombs were set off in the stands.

Supporters of PSV set off the bombs in protest against recent banning orders in Dutch football.

Fourteen people were hospitalised as thick plumes of smoke engulfed sections of the Philips Stadion on Sunday afternoon.

Ten fans and four security guards all received treatment for respiratory issues.

The incident occurred shortly after half-time as PSV led by a goal to nil through Jurgen Locadia’s 25th-minute opener.

PSV held on for the victory to keep up the pressure on Ajax in the table.

Third-placed PSV now trail second-placed Ajax by three points with just two games to play this season.

League leaders Feyenoord are all but guaranteed to win the title as they sit four points clear of Ajax.
