But it was in fact the Norwegian who had the last laugh, as he was in on the joke.
In the above Stadium Astro video, starring Malaysian TV host Amanda Chaang, Riise looks exasperated with the line of questioning.
Chaang begins by introducing him as a Manchester United legend with a fierce right-foot before asking whether he is related to Ed Sheeran.
And not just because the pair have ginger hair, oh no, but because she feels the singer’s line: “When your legs don’t work like they used to,” speaks directly to him.
After biting his lip and answering in the best way he can, Riise is asked how he felt when he lifted the Premier League trophy – something he didn’t do.
He is then asked whether he intentionally scored an own goal in Liverpool’s 2008 Champions League semi-final against Chelsea.
And well, as you can probably imagine, Riise becomes increasingly annoyed to the point he eventually storms out the room.
But here comes the fun part.
Chaang, who was obviously prepped to ask these questions and very much in on the trolling session, was unaware that Riise was also in on it.
This means that he knew he was going to face a barrage of difficult questions leading to him getting up and storming out the room.
So in fact it was he who got the last laugh when Chaang, clearly worried she had really upset Riise, went to apologise to him and he revealed all.
