Forrest puts Celtic through to Champions League playoff stage with winner at Rosenborg

James Forrest fired Celtic to within a play-off of the Champions League group stage.

The Scottish winger struck midway through the second half with the only goal of a tight encounter.

With extra time looming after 159 minutes of deadlock, Forrest latched on to a pass from Scott Sinclair and fired a thumping shot past Andre Hansen and in off the underside of the bar.

Forrest could have had a second eight minutes from time but was frustrated while trying to round Hansen.

And Leigh Griffiths almost added a second late on, only for Hansen to make a wonderful save.

Brendan Rodgers’ side could face Astana, Qarabag, Rijeka, Hapoel Beer Sheva or Slavia Prague in tomorrow’s play-off draw.
