“I can’t win the title with 11 players” – Conte sends strong message to Chelsea board

Date Posted,August 25, 2017

Antonio Conte has laid into Chelsea’s summer transfer dealings claiming he “can’t win the title with 11 players”.

The Chelsea boss has sent yet another message to the club’s hierarchy that he needs more strength in depth even though the club have spent over £120m on Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata.

But with Diego Costa refusing to come back to the club, the squad still has major weaknesses in certain areas and Conte says he has not got enough players to mount a serious challenge for silverware.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley have all been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge during the summer.

With the transfer window closing on Thursday, Conte is praying the club’s hierarchy will able to bring in some new faces and give him every chance of retaining their Premier League crown.

Conte said: “I hope after the international break to have the whole team.

“We play seven games in a month, and I need to rotate players. If someone is thinking that I can use only 11 players or 13 players, it’s impossible. Impossible.

“I have to rotate. We must be ready to face this situation.

“We are trying to strengthen our squad and, if we are in the transfer market, that means we need to improve the squad.”
