It’s time for England to drop Joe Hart, claims former England captain Terry Butcher

Date Posted,June 10, 2017

Terry Butcher insists it is time to drop Joe Hart as England’s No1.

England legend Butcher claims that Stoke’s Jack Butland deserves his chance after questioning Hart on both goals against Scotland.

Butcher said: “There is a case, and a very strong case, to give Jack Butland a chance now because he was in pole position before he got injured.”

When asked whether Hart should be dropped and be replaced as No1, Butcher added: “Yes.

“I was very disappointed with the goals. Joe is a big guy, his positioning, neither shot was particularly close to the post and it’s disappointing that he did not even get a glove on it.”

Butcher, in an interview with the BBC, was critical of England’s performance but praised the way Harry Kane snatched a draw and their fighting spirit after going on a boot camp with the Royal Marines.

Butcher added: “I like the idea (of the boot camp), but I didn’t see much evidence of it yesterday. England deserve full praise for at least coming back. It had a real feel of beach football rather than grass football, didn’t it?”
