Klopp names Liverpool squad for Champions League play-off against Hoffenheim

Date Posted,August 9, 2017

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has named his squad for next week’s Champions League play-off clash against Hoffenheim – and Philippe Coutinho is included.

Speculation continues to cloud the Reds’ No.10’s future, and a back injury means he’ll miss the weekend’s Premier League opener against Watford. Mamadou Sakho has not been included.

The Reds head to Germany next Tuesday for the first leg, before the return at Anfield on August 23, reports the Liverpool Echo.

There are few surprises in Liverpool’s squad, submitted to UEFA. Coutinho is included amid continued speculation over his future, though the Brazilian is still recovering from a back injury which has prevented him training this week.

Nathaniel Clyne is named despite being expected to miss Saturday’s trip to Watford with back and hamstring problems. Daniel Sturridge is also part of the squad, though the striker is nursing a thigh problem.

New signings Mo Salah, Andy Robertson and Dominic Solanke are all included, while youngsters Rhian Brewster and Conor Masterson join the party as ‘locally-trained’ players.

Notable absentees are Sakho and Lazar Markovic, both of whom are expected to leave the club before the transfer window closes. Danny Ings is still not ready to return to first-team action, while Adam Lallana is a long-term absentee and so is not included.
