England front man Defoe played a special role in the last months of tragic Bradley’s battle with cancer.
The pair met when Bradley was made a mascot for a Sunderland game last season – which Defoe admitted there was an “instant connection” from the moment they set eyes on each other.
The buddies became “best friends” with Defoe regularly visiting the fighter for hugs before Bradley helped lead England out ahead of an international with Lithuania in March.
Sadly, Bradley passed away from the rare form of the disease on Friday.
And well-wishers took to social media to make a case for Defoe to be rewarded for his good deeds.
With a whole host of supporters calling for the BBC to make a special award at the end of year Sport’s Personality of the Year doo.
