Southampton filed a complaint to the Premier League earlier this summer after the Reds made contact with the centre-back.
Liverpool were forced to issue a public apology to the south coast club and confirmed they “ended any interest in the player”.
However, despite backing down, the Anfield side still find themselves linked with a world-record bid for the 26-year-old Dutchman.
Following Liverpool’s 4-0 pre-season win over Tranmere Rovers, Klopp finally spoke out on the saga.
“Am I allowed to talk about this?” began Klopp. “No I am not. Pretty much what I could say would be a mistake – not because there’s something open or whatever.
“You or your colleagues wrote about it all a few weeks ago. I was in Iceland by the way when somebody told me this was in the newspapers.
“That’s all I have to say about this. Nothing has happened since then, nothing. All good so far.”
