Romelu Lukaku knew he had made the right move to Manchester United in his very first training session with the club.
The Belgian completed his move to Old Trafford earlier this month and linked up with his new teammates in Los Angeles.
He opened his scoring account in the pre-season friendly win over Real Salt Lake on Tuesday night as United ran out 2-1 winners.
Attention now turns to a derby with City in Houston as Jose Mourinho’s men prepare for the new Premier League season.
The Red Devils finished sixth last term but Lukaku believes they are on the verge of something big ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
“From the first day, when we had the meeting with the manager in Los Angeles, you just felt that something special was happening,” he told MUTV.
“But it’s down to us now; we need to work hard every day and deliver in the pre-season games to be ready for the new season.
“At Manchester United, we play to win and that’s the mentality when I get on the pitch and everything comes with it.
“We’re working really hard to prepare for the season, the competition is there, and everyone is working hard to have a place in the team.”
After opening his account in Utah, Lukaku has his sights set on adding to his tally as soon as possible.
“I’m here to score goals and be the focal point of the team,” he said.
“I’ve been waiting for this opportunity, like I said. Now, I am here and it’s time to work hard and, hopefully, deliver.”
