Lukaku will be auditioning for Chelsea return on Sunday, says Arsenal legend Wright

Date Posted,April 27, 2017

Romelu Lukaku will be auditioning for a Chelsea move when he returns to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Goal machine Lukaku has been strongly linked with a return to the Blues this summer to replace Diego Costa – who could be on his way out.

The Everton front man left west London for the Toffees for £28m three years ago, after loan stints at Goodison Park and West Brom.

Lukaku made 15 appearances for Chelsea after joining from Anderlecht in 2011 – with Manchester United also keen to sign him.

Lukaku has scored 25 times for Ronald Koeman’s men this season and former Arsenal ace Wright thinks his performance on Sunday could make or break a move.

“I think Romelu Lukaku will be auditioning for a move back to Chelsea on Sunday. I get the impression that Costa will be leaving at the end of the season,” Wright told The Sun .

“Lukaku is setting himself up nicely to slip into that role. He’ll want to impress them and show them why he’s the Premier League’s top scorer.

“But I think Chelsea can still, even now, afford to lose this game with the ones they’ve got coming next.”

Koeman last week warned the European giants slugging it out for Lukaku that £100million may not buy him.

When asked about the staggering figures clubs will pay for Lukaku, he replied: “I am not involved in that business. He has a two year contract.

“If somebody is interested (in him) for sure they will call the board and speak about it, but we like to keep him at Everton for next season.

“He knows, he knows, I had several conversations about how in my opinion this is the best place for him. He is working hard, he is improving and with 23 goals with five games to go, he can reach a really high total.”
