When you think of the world’s best defenders you think of Italy.
From Paolo Maldini, Fabio Cannavaro, and Franco Baresi to Alessandro Nesta, Giorgio Chiellini, and Alessandro Costacurta we could go on and on.
However, instead of naming any of his national teammates, the 24-year-old opted for a Spaniard and a Brazilian.
“The captain! [Thiago Silva] O Monstro! He’s impressive. He’s one of the two best in the world with Sergio Ramos,” Verratti told Goal.
“You could add Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo [Bonucci] but they need each other, while Thiago Silva is strong with anyone.
“He’s a captain who talks a lot in the dressing room.
“Marquinhos takes advantage of having Thiago Silva beside him. He’s lucky to be developing with a player like that. Now he has to become one of the best.”
Verratti has been continually linked with a move to Man United, but a number of top clubs are reportedly chasing his signature.
Responding to transfer speculation in the past, Verratti’s agent told Gazzetta dello Sport: “The situation is very complicated.
“He has a very good contract until 2021. He wants to win and PSG, like it is, cannot win.
“He has been in Paris for five years now and he has to make a decision: earn a lot and not win or earn and become a champion.
“It is not a problem of money. Whoever signs Verratti will pay him a lot of money. One thing is certain: if he leaves PSG, it will be for a top European club.”
