Man United tour diary: A touch of Hollywood, Lukaku already a hit and a well-earned break

Date Posted,July 13, 2017

Hollwood star Julia Roberts has been a regular visitor to Manchester United’s UCLA training camp in LA this week, with her two sons, who are both Reds fans.

Roberts watched United in action last season at Old Trafford, as the drew 1-1 against West Ham, and is likely to be in the crowd at the StubHub Center for Saturday’s tour opener against LA Galaxy.

Another star of the big screen, Lord of the Rings star Dominic Monaghan, also visited United’s training camp this week.

Monaghan, a United fan, posed for a picture with boss Jose Mourinho after meeting him and the players following their morning training session on Thursday.

Romelu Lukaku has yet to play for Manchester United, but he has already made his mark at the club – by breaking a social media record.

Saturday morning’s tweet confirming Lukaku’s signing from Everton became most retweeted post from United’s official Twitter account, with more than 93,000 fans sharing it.

The previous record was held by Lukaku’s friend and new team-mate Paul Pogba, with the first official photo of him wearing a United shirt on his return to the club attracting 88,000 retweets.

United’s players have been undergoing daily double training sessions since arriving in LA on Monday, to get them up to full fitness as quickly as possible ahead of the new season.

The searing temperatures in LA saw United build a swimming pool and two smaller pools next to the training pitches, to allow players to cool down after training in the debilitating heat.

But United’s players were given the afternoon off on Thursday, and were allowed to do their own thing, ahead of another double session on Friday before Saturday’s tour opener against LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center.
