Manchester United have had some iconic captains in their time.
Sir Bobby Charlton wore the armband with distinction at Old Trafford for six years, Bryan Robson earned the nickname ‘Captain Marvel’ while Roy Keane was perhaps the most intimidating leader the Premier League has ever seen.
But could the Red Devils’ next skipper be an unassuming teenager?
Marcus Rashford has established himself as a bone fide first-team player over the past two years, but will we soon be seeing the teenager leading his team-mates out?
Only time will tell, but that hasn’t stopped Anthony Martial from cheekily raising the possibility on Twitter when he responded to a picture from the England international on holiday.
Rashford posted a snap of him enjoying himself on a boat and his team-mate soon took the bait.
“Captain Rashford,” replied Martial. Rashford hit back with “Captain Martial”, before the replies descended into the usual ‘football friends’ Inbetweeners schtick.
With club skipper Wayne Rooney struggling to find a new club, the Red Devils armband might not be up for grabs just yet, so the pair may have to wait their turn.
