Kylian Mbappe has been left out of Monaco’s 19-man squad for their trip to Metz as speculation continues to rage about his future at the club.
The coveted young Frenchman watched from the bench as Radamel Falcao scored a hat-trick in their season opener.
And now he won’t even be in his kit for Friday night’s Ligue 1 match.
Paris Saint-German are most heavily linked to the teenager, with another mega-move on the cards following the £199m signing of Neymar.
Monaco’s manager Leonardo Jardim explained Mbappe was being protected rather than punished when he was left off the pitch last week.
“Was Mbappe punished? No, not at all,” he said ahead of today’s squad announcement. “With everything going on around an 18-year-old kid, it’s our responsibility to protect him from the storm.
“I will always protect players who need it. My philosophy is to play with players who are 100 per cent available to the squad.
“Kylian is not at 100 per cent. He’s not in shape right now.
“It was a decision from the club. That means me, vice president Vadim Vasilyev and the sporting director, Antonio Cordon.
“It’s our decision for the player, the squad and the club.”
