Messi fuming over Real Madrid success and fears he will miss out on Ballon d’Or

Date Posted,June 5, 2017

Lionel Messi is fuming over Real Madrid’s success last season and fears he will miss out on the FIFA Ballon d’Or to Cristiano Ronaldo as a result.

Despite another impressive campaign which saw the Argentine superstar score 54 goals in just 52 appearances, he still suffered heartache as his side missed out on winning the La Liga title on the final day of the season.

To make matters worse Real Madrid then created history as they became the first team to retain the Champions League.

According to Gol Newsaper, Messi is not happy with the final outcome and feels that Ronaldo will now go on to win his fifth Ballon d’Or as a result of Madrid’s success.

The Barcelona forward believes it could have been a different outcome if former boss Luis Enrique had made different decisions during key games of the season.

Enrique made a big call defender Jeremy Mathieu in two decisive games, but the move backfired as Barcelona lost key games against Malaga in La Liga and Juventus in the Champions League.

According to the report, Messi is now hoping the club will look into their academy structure and the emergence of players into the first-team.

The 29-year-old is also hoping the club will review their recruitment policy as they prepare for a new era under new coach Ernesto Valverde.
