Mkhitaryan took his goal tally to three in as many games with his outrageous ‘scorpion’ finish in United’s 3-1 Boxing Day win over Sunderland.
The Armenia international, who missed two games through injury, came off the bench against Sunderland but Jose Mourinho is set to start with him against Middlesbrough on Saturday.
That means a likely demotion to the bench for Juan Mata or Jesse Lingard, as United search for a fifth straight Premier League win to increase their push for a top-four place.

United skipper Wayne Rooney, one goal short of equalling Sir Bobby Charlton’s club record of 249, is likely to miss the game, having also sat out the Boxing Day triumph.
Rooney has a thigh injury and is unlikely to be fit in time, while Luke Shaw, who is continuing his recovery from a groin problem, will also not figure.
