Monk in pole position for the Boro job now he and Pearson have both been interviewed

Date Posted,June 7, 2017

Garry Monk is in pole position to become manager of relegated Middlesbrough.

Boro chairman Steve Gibson has now interviewed both Monk, former manager of Swansea and Leeds, and one-time Boro player Nigel Pearson, and the former is long odds-on favourite with bookies.

Monk, who left Elland Road at the end of the season, has also been approached by Middlesbrough’s also-relegated, equally-managerless neighbours Sunderland .

But, with no appointment imminent at the Stadium of Light following David Moyes’ resignation, the Teessiders could get in first.

The eventual successor to Aitor Karanka, who was sacked in March as Boro tried in vain to avoid an instant return to the Championship, will be given cash to mount a promotion campaign.
