Mourinho admits pride at Man United’s display in win over former club Chelsea

Date Posted,April 20, 2017

Jose Mourinho has called on Manchester United’s players to repeat their efforts from Sunday’s win over Chelsea against Anderlecht

The Red Devils saw off the Premier League leaders at Old Trafford after an excellent display.

It was arguably the best performance under Mourinho but attention now turns to the Europa League second leg with Anderlecht.

The quarter-final is tied at 1-1 ahead of the Old Trafford encounter and Mourinho knows another all-action display is required

“At Old Trafford we have had many great performances this season but we haven’t always come away with what we deserved,” he wrote in his programme notes ahead of the clash.

“That wasn’t the case on Sunday and it will do a lot for our players to see that the Premier League leaders just could not live with them at any point in the game.

“The boys made me so proud on Sunday – and they must give everything again as we aim to reach the Europa League semi-finals.

Mourinho went on to hail the atmosphere generated against Chelsea as he saw off his former club.

“The desire they all showed was spurred on by the fantastic atmosphere you provided at Old Trafford,” he added.

“You have always been very supportive but I have to say that on Sunday you went to another level.

“It reminded me of the many encounters I have had here as the opposition manager.

“We need that spirit again this evening, both on and off the pitch.”
