Mourinho jetted to Portugal twice in 24 hours to be at wife’s bedside

Date Posted,December 31, 2016

Jose Mourinho is reported to have flown back and forth from Portugal twice in 24 hours last week to be with his wife in hospital as she recovered from an emergency operation.

The Manchester United manager returned to his home country on Wednesday hours after Matilde, 51, had undergone surgery.

He jetted back to Manchester via a private jet late in the evening before completing the same return journey on Thursday.

The Sun on Sunday say Matilde, who the former Chelsea boss married in 1989, needed surgery as a result of complications from an earlier operation.

Matilde, known as Tami, is said to be recovering at the family’s £2million home in Setubal.

A source said Tami’s operation “came out of the blue” and “knocked Mourinho sideways”.

Mourinho was back on the touchline on New Year’s Eve as his United side made it five Premier League wins in a row against Middlesbrough.

The Red Devils were trailing with just minutes to play but goals from Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba within 90 seconds of each other turned the game on its head.
