Five time Ballon d’Or winner Messi’s biggest threat for his best player on the planet tag isn’t long-term rival Cristiano Ronaldo, but Brazilian trickster Neymar.
Neymar is a rising ace and makes up the attacking trio of MSN at the Nou Camp, along with Messi and Luis Suarez.
Messi is still Barca’s leading scorer in La Liga this season – edging out Suarez – but Neymar is chipping in with the best assist tally in Spain.
The 29-year-old’s halo slipped slightly after he was banned from international football for four games for an alleged foul-mouthed rant at a linesman – with the Argentines struggling to qualify for next year’s World Cup.
Carlos Dibos, is Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone’s bother-in-law, and worked with Messi between 2006 and 2008 in the national team.
He told TyC Sports: “I don’t think it’s wrong for a player to have a dialogue with the coach as to who he prefers or would chose to have next to him.
“But that player has to have personality, courage, bravery, to be able to carry the team on his shoulders… that was Diego Armando Maradona.
“That player has to feel that the shirt represents a huge number of Argentinians and that we all want the best.
“Diego represented that and, for me, Leo does not.
“It doesn’t mean that he is bad. For me, he’s among the three best players in the world, but he’s not the best. Today, Neymar is better.
“Now the truth is out, we’re sick (of his behaviour) in Argentina. We’re going to make that very clear.”
