It’s not clear whether the Paris Saint-Germain forward, who joined the club this summer for a world record-breaking £199million, has been in Spain this Tuesday, or whether the pictures are from a previous occasion.
But no less than three emerged on his Instagram account shortly after news broke that his former employers are preparing to take legal action against him.
The first image, which he also posted to Twitter, shows him posing for a picture with Gerard Pique. The duo are all smiles and the image is accompanied with the caption “Se queda,” which translates as “he stays,” in reference to an infamous picture Pique posted of the pair ahead of his move to PSG.
The second image, which was initially posted by Lionel Messi, shows the Brazilian and Argentine forwards cosying up for a snap with Luis Suarez.
And the third picture is a group shot, and shows Neymar posing with Ivan Rakitic, Douglas, Suarez, Messi, Pique and former Barcelona right-back – now of PSG – Dani Alves.
The photos have mostly gone down well with the majority of Barcelona fans, who appear pleased that there are no hard feelings following Neymar’s move to PSG.
But some have picked up on the timing in which the images have been posted to social media, with one asking: “Are they all protesting indirectly against the board?”
Barcelona announced on Tuesday that they will sue Neymar for €8.5m (£7.8m) for failing to fulfil his contract.
The La Liga giants are claiming the sum from last year’s loyalty bonus, plus a further 10 percent in arrears. Barca have filed their official complaint to the Spanish Federation.
The amount corresponds to the bonus included in Neymar’s contract when it was extended last October. PSG are likely to intervene, rather than the player himself pay the sum.
However, the latest developments further emphasise Barca’s fury as they struggle with life after the Brazilian.
