Oxford City announce new signing with contract signing in McDONALD’S

Date Posted,June 1, 2017

A non-league football team cooked up a social media frenzy by announcing their new signing in McDonald’s.

Oxford City, who play in the sixth tier of English footballer, shared a picture of new arrival Matt Paterson signing his deal at the popular food chain.

With no Big Macs in sight, Patterson smiled for the camera to announce his arrival at the National League South club.

After posting the image on Twitter, users joked about what his signing on fee would have been.

One said: “I hope he got a free sausage and egg McMuffin with that deal.”

Another added: “Announcing your new signing over a big mac meal and giving him a signing on fee of a McFlurry.”

While others also noted that he was using a pen that appears to have been ‘borrowed’ from a local bank.

“In maccy d’s with a free pen from Barclays pen,” one user said. “Staying classy.”

Eventually McDonald’s were forced to respond themselves – and encouraged the fact he was signed in one of their restaurants.

They wrote: “Good in the box and often lifting a cup, we’re big fans of @OxCityFC’s tasty new signing!”

Oxford’s signings generally put pen to paper in a function room, presumably at their Marsh Lane home.

They will be looking to improve on their 14th place finish in the National League South last season.
