Arsenal and Manchester United Jose Maria Gimenez has scored an incredible own goal for Uruguay against Italy.
Defender Gimenez blasted into the top corner of his own net after attempting to prevent Andrea Belotti from slotting in for the hosts.
The Atletico Madrid man had earned the attention of Premier League sides the Gunners and United – with both searching for a new centre back.
The 22-year-old has a £56m buyout clause in his contract but Atleti are said to be ready to lower the price slightly.
Arsene Wenger has been trailing Gimenez for over a year – and was close to signing before they decided to bag Skhodran Mustafi instead.
While it was reported in Spain that United officials had spoken to Gimenez to try and start a new defensive era with Eric Bailly.
Although Atleti’s transfer ban could put a stop to any potential swoop for the defender.
Gimenez has made 32 appearances for Uruguay including starting against England at the 2014 World Cup, before playing in two Copa Americas.
He joined the La Liga side for €900,000 in 2013 having started his career at Uruguayan top flight side Danubio.
