Date Posted,July 5, 2017

RB Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick has dealt a huge blow to Liverpool’s hopes of landing summer transfer target Naby Keita.

The Reds have been interested in signing the 22-year-old for some time, but Jurgen Klopp has been forced to wait till the player sits down and discusses his future with the Bundesliga club’s chiefs.

Keita moved to RB Leipzig last summer from sister-club Red Bull Salzburg, and impressed in his first season guiding the club to a second-placed finish.

His performances attracted Liverpool, with the Reds reportedly willing to spend a club-record £70million on the star.

But RB Leipzig’s sporting director has quashed any such of hopes of the Reds landing the star.

Speaking after the signing of Jean-Kévin Augustin, Rangnick said: “We will definitely not be letting any key players go. There’s nothing that will make us budge.

“It’s totally normal for clubs to be interested in our players, but that doesn’t affect our stance on the matter.”

So far this window, the Reds have only managed to capture the £34million signing of Mohamed Salah.

But Klopp has urged fans to be patient as Liverpool continue to battle to land their top summer targets.
