The Red Devils made the Spanish 24-year-old their top target after their move for Antoine Griezmann collapsed following Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban being upheld.
United, who were also keeping tabs on Andrea Belotti, have now cooled their interest in the Italian amid claims he has an eye-watering £87million buy-out clause.
Morata is almost certain to make a move to the Premier League when the transfer window opens, although Ramos isn’t best pleased about it.
The Spaniard, who has represented Los Blancos since 2005, recently spoke out about the forward, revealing Morata is a good friend of his.
“We’ll see what happens with Morata,” said Ramos. “I wish him the best and he’ll decide what will happen.
“I have a special affection for him and I always wish him the best. It is not up to me if he stays. I wish everyone stays.”
Man United are confident of landing the wantaway Spain international for £60million.
The 24-year-old is desperate to start more games and has told Real he wants to leave the club in the summer, much to Ramos’ apparent disappointment.
