Real Madrid legend Carlos believes Buffon will never beat Ronaldo to Ballon d’Or

Date Posted,June 2, 2017

Roberto Carlos believes that Gianluigi Buffon is the best goalkeeper in history – but will never beat Cristiano Ronaldo to the Ballon d’Or.

Buffon, 39, is nearing the end of his legendary Juventus career but is having one of the best seasons of his life.

Juve are looking to add a first European crown since 1996 to their Serie A and Coppa Italia successes from last month – and it is all down to their steady defence.

There are calls for Buffon to end his career with a Ballon d’Or success but Real Madrid icon Carlos says that he cannot see him winning the top prize.

He believes that Ronaldo is in line to retain the trophy and win it for a fifth time.

Speaking to Goal , Carlos said: “Of course, Buffon is the best goalkeeper in history but for what Cristiano is doing, it’s difficult to take the Ballon d’Or from him. He is the best in the world.”

There is one Juventus player that Carlos has got a lot of admiration for, however.

He admits that he is a big fan of Paulo Dybala – and believes that he could one day pull on the all-white kit of Real at the Bernabeu.

“Of course there will be a lot of interest from top clubs,” Carlos said. “Dybala is an excellent player.

“Who knows? Maybe one day he can wear the t-shirt of the biggest club in the world!”
