The Red Devils boss paraded the pitch, celebrated with his son, indicated that he was ‘number one’ and told his players to enjoy their treble.
However, one particular interaction caught the eye of many curious onlookers – the one that took place between him and Justin Kluivert.
The 18-year-old, who played no part in Wednesday’s final, is the son of legendary Holland striker Patrick Kluivert.
This season he has enjoyed a breakthrough at Ajax and has represented the Amsterdam club 20 times.
He’s tipped for greatness, and it seems Mourinho is an admirer, at least that’s how one Dutch publication has interpreted it.
According to those at VoetbalInside, who claim to have done a bit of lip-reading from the on-pitch chat, Mourinho approached the starlet and announced: “I want you.”
This is the clearest part of the conversation as the rest of it sees Mourinho cover his mouth at points and stand with his back to the camera.
However, it has been claimed that the Portuguese continued: “You are a special one, let’s make a special transfer.
“One more season, then you come to Manchester, and become my striker.
“One more season to shine at Ajax, then we make history together.”
The conversation has to be taken with a pinch of salt, given that there is no way in which it can be truly verified.
Although Mourinho’s passion during the exchange is there for everyone to see, as is Kluivert’s seemingly flattered expression.
