Date Posted,July 11, 2017

Wayne Rooney is set to make his Everton debut on Thursday as they prepare for a historic game in Tanzania.

Rooney has made an emotional return to Goodison Park and will play his first game back in a Blues shirt for the first time since May 2004.

The former England captain has jetted out with the Everton squad and trained on Wednesday as they gear up for a landmark game.

Rooney last played for Everton when they lost 5-1 against Leicester and will be hoping for a much better outcome when he plays at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.

Tanzania has never hosted a Premier League side but that will change on Thursday when Ronald Koeman’s side line up against Gor Mahia.

Rooney has wasted no time settling in with his new team-mates as he looks to build up his fitness ahead of the new season.

The 31-year-old still feels he has a major point to prove and is determined to be one of the major stars for the Merseyside club next season.

Aaron Lennon is also set to feature on Thursday following his short leave of absence at the end of last season due to his mental health scare.

Lennon is determined to get his career back on track and hopes to impress Koeman in the next few weeks as Everton also face games against Genk and Sevilla.
