Salah insists he is 100 per cent a better player than the one who left Chelsea

Liverpool’s new signing Mohamed Salah insists he is 100 per cent a better player than the one who failed to make any impact at Chelsea.

Salah completed a club record £39million move to the Merseyside club on Thursday night and is ready to take the Premier League by storm during his second spell in England.

The Egypt international struggled to make a breakthrough at Stamford Bridge after Chelsea beat the Reds to clinch his signature three-and-a-half years ago.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Salah made just 19 appearances for the Londoners before being off-loaded on loan to Fiorentina.

Since then his career has been on an upward curve. He went on to flourish at Roma – scoring 19 goals in all competitions last season.

Asked if he was a better player now than when he was at Chelsea, Salah told LFCTV: “100% yes. They have paid a lot of money for that!

“Everything, even my personality is different. I was a kid then, just 21. Now, four years on, I have a baby and everything is different.

“I feel better suited now. I have a lot of experience from three clubs. I was at Chelsea, Fiorentina and then Roma.

“I always try to improve and get better and better. I think last season was my best season.

“I feel like I am doing better and better every year. Now I have a new challenge here.

“Liverpool fans will expect more. It won’t be easy but I am ready. I feel love from the supporters. They have been sending me funny photos and videos!

“I have experience. I like the way English football is. I’m happy to be back.”

A left-footer, Salah does most of his damage from the right wing, but insists he’s versatile.

“When we played five at the back at Roma I played as the second striker, like the No 10,” he added.

“Sometimes I go on the left. I can play anywhere along the front.”

Salah thanked Roberto Firmino for agreeing to hand over the No 11 shirt and take No 9 instead.

With No 11 already taken, Salah was ready to take No 9 himself but the Brazilian attacker agreed to the switch.

“I appreciate what Firmino did,” he said

“I like No 11. It was my number in Rome and with the national team. The club asked him and I have to thank him very much.”
