Spurs boss warns Harry the Hornet about teasing Alli with another mock dive

Date Posted,December 30, 2016

Mauricio Pochettino joked Harry the Hornet will be brave to mock dive in front of his feisty midfielder Dele Alli.

The Watford mascot caused a buzz by taunting Wilfried Zaha after the winger was involved in another diving controversy against the Hornets in Crystal Palace’s 1-1 Boxing Day draw at Vicarage Road.

Palace boss Sam Allardyce had a bee in his bonnet about the incident and suggested Harry the Hornet should be stung with an FA charge.

Tottenham star Alli has also been in the spotlight for going to ground too easily, but ahead of the New Year’s Day meeting between the clubs, Pochettino warned: “It would be a brave mascot to do it front of Dele? He would probably scare the mascot!”

And the Spurs boss urged Alli to swot away any stick if Harry the Hornet tries to wind him up.

Pochettino said: “You need to laugh, because the mascot’s job is to be funny with the people and encourage the crowd like this.

“If I put myself on Palace’s side I can understand that they were upset, but it was funny for the Watford supporters. It was a stupid action, a stupid thing and it can go no further.

“We need to be careful with that because in that situation you can upset people with a stupid thing, but it was only a mascot that was trying to be funny.

“The mascot never thought he was creating a big issue. Now he has learned about that situation – or maybe they have changed the mascot.”
