John Terry has captained Aston Villa for the first time this afternoon.
The former England and Chelsea skipper opted to move to Villa Park after leaving Stamford Bridge.
He has already set his sights on promotion this term and has been officially named as skipper.
Villa announced the news ahead of their clash with Shrewsbury on Saturday, where Terry made his debut.
Tommy Elphick was Villa’s club captain last season although James Chester and Mile Jedinak regularly wore the armband.
Terry was appointed Chelsea captain at the start of the 2004-05 season and guided the club to back-to-back titles.
He skippered the side to three more Premier League titles during his Stamford Bridge tenure.
Terry also had two separate spells as England captain.
Villa kick off their Championship campaign against Hull on Saturday August 5.
