Jose Mourinho has booked Manchester United ’s injured players on their US pre-season tour as he aims to unite his squad for a title push.
Old Trafford boss Mourinho is busy preparing for the new campaign after coming sixth in the Premier League, while qualifying for the Champions League via victory in the Europa League.
Mourinho’s stars are due to report back on July 8 before flying to America, where they will face LA Galaxy in Los Angeles in their first game on tour on July 15.
United are also due to play another MLS side, Real Salt Lake, in Utah before taking on Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona in International Champions Cup fixtures in Houston, San Francisco and Washington DC.
Left-back Shaw is out until August after surgery on his ankle ligament following injury against Swansea on April 30. Versatile Young injured his hamstring in the Europa League semi-final against Celta Vigo and was ruled out for the rest of the season.
The duo had expected to stay in the UK to continue their rehabilitation while the rest of United’s squad went away. But Mourinho has expressly demanded all the squad spend time together in USA to help bond and assist any new signings to integrate.
Provisions are now being made for Shaw and Young to continue their rehabilitation there as part of the tour party.
It is also an indication that both players remain part of Mourinho’s plans for the season despite interest from other clubs.
Spurs, Liverpool and Man City are eying England left-back Shaw should Mourinho make him surplus to requirements, while former England international Young has attracted interest previously from the Chinese Super League.
