Jose Mourinho has been told that Antoine Griezmann will not be leaving Atletico Madrid this summer.
Griezmann is expected to cost around £85million but Atleti are determined to do all they can to keep hold of their star asset.
Atleti president Enrique Cerezo insists that he is sure Griezmann will be wearing their red and white stripes during their first game at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium next season.
Speaking to Marca , he said: “Griezmann will stay here.
“Not here at the Calderon, but at the Wanda.”
Over the weekend, United boss Mourinho admitted his interest in bringing Griezmann to Old Trafford.
The Portuguese boss was a guest of Red Bull at the Monaco F1 Grand Prix and during Saturday’s qualifying, he said that negotiations were out of his hands.
When asked about the possibility of Griezmann joining United by Sky Sports, he said: “I have no idea. You have to ask Ed Woodward.
“He knows since March who I want, what I want and how much I want.
“He knows everything since March and now it is for him to work, because he will have holidays in August and in August I am working.”
A number of reports have suggested that Griezmann has agreed personal terms with the deal set to be rubber-stamped.
However, he took to Twitter on Friday evening to reject those reports, while admitting his future is uncertain.
“All the rumours are unfounded,” he wrote. “I’m still Colchonero. My direction will be established after discussion with my sporting advisor.”
